A Beautiful Fall in Edgemont

We’ve had a truly beautiful fall this year! It’s not every year that we get to enjoy such vibrant colours as the leaves change, but this season has been especially stunning.

A big thank you goes out to Foothills Landscaping for their hard work in keeping Edgemont looking its best. They have now completed the fall cleanup across the community, removed all the annuals, and prepared our planters for our winter displays.

These winter displays will once again be created and maintained by Edenscapes. You’ll see their crew working around the community from mid-November through early December. Please keep an eye out for them and slow down when driving near the planters— many are located along medians and roadsides, so your caution helps keep everyone safe.

We also ask for your help in protecting our beautiful winter displays. If you see anyone removing decorations or items from the displays, please contact us right away at [email protected]. Photos are especially helpful when reporting incidents.

Our naturalization pilot project near the stairs below the Edgemont Community Centre has entered its next phase! On October 16, volunteers completed a final weed pull, followed by the spreading of native grass seed and a native wildflower mix. The City of Calgary provided support, equipment, and guidance to help identify and plant the native species. A heartfelt thank you to the City of Calgary and to our dedicated Edgemont volunteers for helping make this project a success!

This year, we successfully completed several exciting community beautification projects, including:

• Improvements to the bus stop area across from “Top of the Hill” on Edenwold Drive off Edgemont Boulevard.

• Pruning, mulching, and planting lilacs along Edenwold Drive.

• Adding Karl Foerster grasses to the tiered bed on Edgemont Boulevard, south of the Edgevalley Drive/Edenwold Drive intersection.

• Installing lattice and climbing roses in the park area on Edgebrook Boulevard.

• Adding donated hardy perennials to the Edgeridge Garden and Edgebrook Boulevard garden bed, we are trying some Bearded Iris. The little rodents in there really appreciated some of the annuals, hopefully the Iris will deter them.

I want to express my sincere gratitude to the Edgemont community for trusting me to manage your ELM program and for welcoming me so warmly. This is my last season managing the ELM program. I truly appreciate everyone who reached out with kind words, suggestions, and feedback throughout the seasons.

I will especially miss working with Rick and Kathleen — they’ve become wonderful friends, and I’ll miss our regular chats.

I’m pleased to share that we have successfully hired a new ELM Coordinator to begin in the 2026 season: Mark Koelbl. Mark brings a wealth of experience and knowledge with the ELM program and is very excited to begin working in Edgemont.

As a reminder, if you have perennials to donate, please keep ELM in mind! We gratefully accept perennial donations in the spring for planting throughout the community before the annuals go in.

Simply dig up your perennials in the spring, and our ELM Coordinator, Mark Koelbl, will arrange pickup. Contact Mark at [email protected] to schedule your donation pick up.

Thank you once again for your continued support.

Kathleen Stewart, Rick Wierzbicki, and Shari Pitka
