Open for Summer
Alberta’s government has announced the Open for Summer plan – a three-stage plan that lays the path to lifting all pandemic restrictions this summer. Based on our plan, Albertans will get back to their normal lives faster than anyone else in Canada.
Hospitalizations and ICU numbers are down from their peaks, and there is now resounding evidence from around the world, and right here in Alberta, that vaccines work. Vaccines provide the protection required to reopen Alberta.
As we reopen, it is incumbent on all of us to thank so many Albertans that made sacrifices to keep us healthy and safe throughout this pandemic. The small business owner that lived with uncertainty for over a year wondering whether they could survive. The nurses and doctors that have been the pillar of stability in our community as they faced down the virus on a daily basis. The teachers that have gone through starts and stops, both online and in person. They have been there for our children day in and day out through one of the toughest teaching environments imaginable. The parents that taught their kids at home. We know how hard it has been to balance this unexpected responsibility with everything else parents need to do. The grandparents that haven’t seen their families for extended periods.
There are so many other people to thank as we reopen Alberta that any list feels incomplete. There will be those that are anxious about the reopening and others that wanted the restrictions lifted months ago. Let’s continue to be compassionate towards one another as we move forward out of this pandemic towards a strong recovery – both economically and as a community.
