Dear Friends,

Thanks to Alberta’s growing economy, strong energy prices, and responsible provincial spending, we have finished the fiscal year in a strong position. Alberta ended the 2021-22 fiscal year with a surplus of $3.9 billion for the first time in seven years. This moves Alberta forward with continued economic growth, lower debt, and increased savings.

The province is using $1.3 billion to pay down the provincial debt, this means Albertans can look forward to a future without ballooning debt servicing costs. Another $705 million is being invested into the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund to protect it against inflation. With these results, the fund is an even stronger savings account to support future generations and cushion the province from the ups and downs of the market and unstable economic conditions.

In addition to a balanced budget, Alberta has the fastest growing economy in the country, the lowest unemployment rate since 2014, and over 200,000 jobs created since 2021.

Our government will also be announcing additional actions to make life more affordable for Albertans. The province has reduced the cost burden by extending its provincial gas tax rebate to October 1 (which is tax relief for Albertans of $110 million per month), providing Albertans $150 in electricity rebates starting in July, funding affordable childcare for parents, and providing grants to low-income students in high-demand programs.

By consistently making fiscally responsible decisions, our government has created a strong financial position for the province of Alberta. This will setup Albertans with continued economic growth, lower debt, and increased savings, benefitting our province today and into the future.

It is my honour to represent you. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can ever be of service to you.

Sincerely,

Whitney Issik
