In January, at the start of 2021, Alberta was already leading Canada in vaccine distribution. We continue to roll out as many vaccines as we can, around the clock.
Our goal is to have phase one of our vaccine program complete by April. That means we are looking to have our frontline care workers, our most vulnerable seniors, such as those over the age of 75 or those who live in long-term care facilities, and those who provide care in those facilities, vaccinated.
Just two short months from now, Alberta’s government is targeting the start of phase two. Between April and June, the goal is to vaccinate 30% of Albertans.
The anticipated rollout of phase three of the vaccine program is in fall 2021. That would mean the COVID-19 vaccine would be available to the general public.
We are doing this as quickly as we can, because we know that getting Albertans vaccinated against COVID-19 is the best way for us to get back to normal. We are all looking forward to that day. These timelines might change, as more vaccines receive approval, which could accelerate the timeline.
Later this month, Alberta’s government will be introducing budget 2021. In it, we will outline our plan for our continued recovery from the COVID-19 recession, while supporting those who faced the greatest challenges during this pandemic.
Hope is on the horizon. The end of this unprecedented challenge is in sight. And, once COVID-19 is in our rear-view mirrors, our province will be back stronger than ever. We won’t stop until Alberta is once again the best place to live, work, start a business, and raise a family.
