A New Spring in Alberta
Dear Neighbours,
As the trees grow their leaves, the grass greens, and gardens start to blossom, we can also see that Alberta is coming back to life. After two years of tremendous challenges, our roots are deep and our limbs strong, as greenery and growth are spreading.
Alberta’s government recently introduced and passed the first balanced budget in fourteen years. This is not only a product of high commodity prices, but also a sign of economic diversification and fiscal restraint. Lowering the corporate tax rate to 8% has attracted more revenue than when it was 12%.
Our tech sector is booming, setting another record this year, with thousands of high-paying jobs waiting to be filled. Film and television saw its best year ever last year, and agriculture and agri-tech and processing are thriving across the province, including right here in Calgary.
We’ve also seen five major hydrogen projects announced, billions of dollars of petrochemical investment, and a booming oil and gas sector with more new investments in our province every single day. Exports and manufacturing are at some of the highest levels on record.
All of this means more revenue is being invested into healthcare, which in this most recent budget saw a $600 million increase into more hospitals and capacity. It means more schools, with 66 projects currently underway. It means more childcare spaces, and we’ve taken action to lower fees for parents.
Alberta’s future looks bright with over 130,000 jobs added in 2021, $54 billion in new investments, a balanced budget, and the fastest growth and lowest taxes in Canada.
Our government will continue to stand up and fight for the best interest of the families who call our beautiful province home.
