The Alberta government has continued to work hard to implement initiatives to make life better for Albertans.

Alberta’s government is expanding apprenticeship education so Albertans can access job-ready skills they need to meet the skill demands of tomorrow. $15 million is being invested over three years to expand apprenticeship education at post-secondary institutions. This investment will increase hands-on learning and mentorship opportunities and create additional seats in existing apprenticeship programs. The province announced an $8 million investment into post-secondary schools for the creation of micro-credentials. These short programs allow students to get specialized training and gain skills quickly, as well as help those looking to switch careers to learn with more flexibility. Programs related to technology and innovation received the most funding, followed by health care programs. Overall, 69 programs were funded at 21 institutions.

Alberta’s primary health care leaders and national and global experts are being brought together to identify immediate and long-term improvements to strengthen Alberta’s primary health care system. Three advisory panels will identify primary health care improvements in the short term and over the next five to ten years. Working closely with the Alberta Medical Association, Primary Care Networks (PCNs), and other primary health care leaders across the province, the panels will address major issues, identify key areas for improvement, and recommend both new opportunities and ways to ramp-up existing strengths in the system. A final report with a recommended strategy to modernize Alberta’s primary health care system will be finalized in spring 2023.

On November 11, Remembrance Day, Canadians will remember the thousands of brave Canadians who made the ultimate sacrifice in the cause of preserving our freedoms. I encourage you to join fellow community residents at the Battalion Park Remembrance Day ceremony as we commemorate this special day.
