June 2021 MP Report – Calgary Midnapore – Stephanie Kusie

Calgary Midnapore e

Dear Constituents of Calgary Midnapore,

We are solidly into year two of this pandemic, and it continues to affect everyone in one way or another. Vaccines are starting to roll out, but the unreliable supply to date is a constant concern, as well as its effect on timing between doses. My colleagues and I continue to advocate for clear information from the government so that Canadians can make choices which are best for them.

Shortly after the federal budget was tabled, I invited financial expert Kim Moody to provide his take on its impacts for Canadians. I also held a virtual town hall on the future of the energy sector, where I was joined by the Official Opposition Shadow Minister for Natural Resources, MP Greg McLean, and Alberta’s Energy Minister, Hon. Sonya Savage. If you weren’t able to join us live, the recordings for both of these events are available on my YouTube channel. In my role as Shadow Minister for Transport, I was invited to be a guest speaker at a webinar hosted by French-speaking members of the Association of Canadian Travel Agencies. (Information on events like these are available at stephaniekusiemp.ca and on my social media.). My team is currently working on our next constituency mailing, and I will highlight some of the key parts of the budget in that document as well.

Although restrictions in Ontario were increased, MPs continue to work for their constituents in Committees and the House of Commons, using virtual tools. Over the past months, I have given speeches, participated in debates, lead our Conservative team at Transport Committee, and questioned Cabinet Ministers. Links to all these interventions, and media interviews, can be accessed on my website.

I am also hearing increased concern from a wide number of constituents about Bill C-10, which the Liberal government recently tabled. Canadians, and the Official Opposition, are leery about the sweeping power this legislation would give to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to regulate the internet, including individual users, with no clear guidelines for how that power will be used.

As always, I am eager to hear your thoughts on current issues facing Calgary, Midnapore, and Canada as a whole. I look forward to the day when we can meet again in person. Until then, please continue to engage with me via email, comment cards, and social media. Additionally, if you would like to receive my email updates, please subscribe on my website.
