A Message From HHBH for November

Hounsfield cn

Where has the year gone? November has always been a month that gives me pause and leads me down memory lane if you will. I think back on the events, activities, and sports programs that the Community Association has been able to sponsor during this challenging time of a global pandemic. We had an outdoor music event in August, and the Community Block Party in September, where we were able to spotlight some of our impressive local musicians. We worked our way through a rather up and down outdoor soccer program where the highlight of this pandemic season was likely the windup party. I remember the loss of one of our community association members and how greatly she is missed.

November is also the month that Hounsfield Heights-Briar Hill Community Association has its Annual General Meeting – remember to show your support for the Community Association, buy an annual membership, volunteer for an event, or run for a position on our Board of Directors.

I am sure the reason for this look to the past is that November 11 is Remembrance Day – where we honour and remember the men and women who gave their lives to fight for the freedoms that we all have and enjoy today.

My walk down memory lane also reminds me that soon the Christmas season will be here; we will begin seeing more and more colorful lights on homes, beautifully decorated trees in the windows, and cheerful music being played everywhere (even those elevators will be playing the familiar Christmas tunes).

I remember that children will be experiencing their first Christmas, newly married couples will be celebrating their first Christmas together, families and friends will be gathering to enjoy the festivities, and soon we will all be celebrating the arrival of the new year.

There are so many memorable moments and occasions to remember, and I know that it is only possible because of the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Remember to go out to one of the Remembrance Day ceremonies, remember to honour that minute of silence on the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month, and most importantly, remember to love one another.
