After consulting with the Federation of Calgary Communities and the province we have learned we cannot delay our AGM to the fall so we will be hosting an AGM in May. Over the past year the province amended the Societies Act allowing us to meet virtually despite that language not being present in our Bylaws. On that note, I wanted to invite all members of the SHCA to join us for our 9th Annual General Meeting on Tuesday May 11 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm via Zoom. Meeting ID: 628 078 9261Passcode: 189292. Up for election this year is: First Vice President, Treasurer as well as Directors 2, 4 and 6.

I wanted to thank all Directors for your hard work and service these past two years and furthermore those whose positons are up for election. Our first Vice President Chad Wawrinchuk, Treasurer Bill Riddell, Director number two, Emmanuel Akinlabi, Director number four, Linda Harkness, Director number six, Tim Chan. Each of you have helped with our board’s growth, organization, and awareness and for that our community will forever remember.

Many of you have asked us about a Community Clean Up event however with COVID we are unable to host or encourage any large gatherings. For those interested in an individual cleanup (or within your cohort) we have chosen the weekend of May 29 and 30 where participants can request a kit from the SHCA by emailing [email protected] or message us on social media. Kits include a bag, gloves, and hand sanitizer which we will drop it off at your doorstep. At your leisure you can collect refuse in any area of the community and leave the filled bag at any community trash can then complete a 311 request for parks to collect it.sage

This spring Ward 2 has an allotment of 500 replacement trees for parks and boulevards and Sage Hill will see 109 of them. This does not include developer replacement trees in Symons Gate and Sage Meadows.

This past month we have seen a lot of online conversation surrounding a community garden and we have begun the process of selecting a site. Right now, the front runner is the top of the ravine by our infamous Sage Hill Rock. Before we break ground, we will require approximately $10,000 for this project so fundraising and donations will be sought in addition to volunteers to build, manage and maintain this infrastructure. The SHCA will be required to take out additional insurance on the site so permanent buy in from residents via annual memberships and seasonal plot rentals will be needed. Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.

Finally, the ice rink is progressing, now that the ice has melted, we are waiting for additional loam to do a final cut and rake prior to grass seed. Hopefully, this will come through in May or early June.

Thank you everyone for a wonderful year, I hope to see you (virtually) at the AGM,

Ross Utigard
President, Sage Hill Community Association
