Queensland President’s Message for August

Hi everyone,

At the time of writing, it is the end of June, and we are right in the middle of a heat wave that supposedly will last for another week or so. I hope everyone is finding ways to get out of the heat and if not, wearing a hat and sunscreen. Looks like Alberta is going to be fully open the beginning of July. I hope that everyone has had a chance to get their second vaccination shot.

On June 27, we had a phenomenally successful Clean Up Day despite the temperature being 30C or more. I would like to take this opportunity to thank a whole bunch of folks who I will be listing below. I am sorry in advance if I have left anyone out.

Many thanks to the following:

The City of Calgary for Sponsoring the event.

The City of Calgary’s awesome staff for manning the trucks.

Deer Ridge Community Association: Bob Hall and Dawn Wallace for donuts, coffee, and of course helping with the unloading.

Christina Steed (Richard Gotfried’s Office) for donuts and helping.

Techno Trash for taking the electronics.

Brent Bond for taking the metals.

Roy Reid for helping neighbours by picking up their articles, and for Traffic Control.

The many residents that brought vehicle loads of their junk to drop off, I even heard that some folks were collecting junk from others in their neighbourhood and dropping it off.

And finally, I would like to send kudos out to our volunteer helpers for unloading all the vehicles:

Dawn Wallace , Bob Hall, Jeff Myrthu, Martine Myrthu, Christina Steed, Carl Hunn, Brian Heritage, Nevelda Sands, Eva Reid, Roy Reid, Ian Murphy, Anita Sukhudo, Linda Brown.

Thanks again everyone, take care until next month!

Cheers,

Brian
