Queensland’s December President’s Message

Hi everyone,

Well the last month of the year has arrived and I am very glad to say that I am happy that it is leaving. My goodness, this year has been really brutal for everyone. We are still not out of the woods yet but stay positive. Hopefully in 2021, we will get a break and things will start to brighten up. Live your life to the best that you can under these circumstances and remember that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.

Thank you to all of you who tuned in or came to our AGM in October. Again, this was done differently than normal. I was very impressed how our Social Media Director, Kevin, put it all together. We had a few glitches to start but it turned out great. Kevin will work on how we can even vote online for some time in the future. Thank you, Kevin, for everything. You truly have a gift for technology.

Activities are jumping right along at the community center. Even though we are limited to the amount of people who can attend the activities, everything seems to be falling into place. We are abiding by the Public Health Rules for COVID-19, so please remember to wear a mask while in the community center and keep your distancing. We have lots of hand sanitizer as well. It is wonderful being able to have the community center alive with laughter and seeing old friends again.

Also, we are now having our renovations being done at the back of the community center. Our wonderful Jensen Room (room near skating rink) is finally getting a facelift. We are also getting a new fire alarm system installed. New doors have been put in the gym as well. We have been waiting for all of these things to get done and finally it is happening. There are still lots of things to get done to bring the building up to present date, so hopefully it won`t take as long to do that now we have a great start.

Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers who put the Halloween Gathering in the community parking lot together on Halloween Night. I was unfortunately not able to attend this as the old witch was busy at her house handing out treats. I was told that there were around 80 children that attended. What a wonderful idea to come up with during these times when everything is limited as to what we can do. The social distancing among everyone was great as well. This was a special treat for all. Thank you again to our fantastic volunteers!

The Good Food Box is still available for everyone to order each month. If you get this newsletter before November 30, you can still order. The delivery date is December 10.

As you all know, I have come to the end of my terms as your Queensland Diamond Cove President. At this time, we have a name that is possibly stepping into this position, and so next month, you will have someone else writing the President’s Message and you will know who it will be. It is very hard for me to say goodbye to everyone because, for 19 years, I have enjoyed working with the community. I have met some wonderful, dedicated people who were determined to have a beautiful safe and happy environment to live in. It is definitely time for new people with wonderful, new, and exciting ideas to bring them forward. This is a great neighbourhood settled in a beautiful corner of Calgary along the Bow River.

Well, I guess this is it. I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a very happy and prosperous New Year. May all of your hopes and dreams come true. Even though, this has been a brutal year, let`s celebrate our Christmas or Holiday Season with beautiful lights to remind us that life is good.
