Mission’s President’s Report for August

Keep Up to Date – Sign Up for E-Mail Updates

Things can and do change and quickly. The newsletter is not frequent enough to communicate things that are changing on short notice in regards to the community association, the community centre, and community events.

So, in order for us to keep you up to date, please register your e-mail address near the bottom of the first page of our website. Our e-mail list is then updated to include your e-mail address. The website address is www.cliffbungalowmission.com.

COVID-19 Update

At the time of writing this column (early July), COVID-19 restrictions have been significantly eased and we hope things will continue to improve. We are planning the 2021–2022 jazz performance season starting Wednesday, September 1. At the moment there will be in-person attendance. We have extended our not renting the hall to third parties policy to the end of August. We are hoping regular community events can be restarted in September. We will update on any changes through e-mails, etc.

Movie in the Park

We are planning a second Movie in the Park this summer for Thursday, August 5. Contact Melissa, our Social Director, at [email protected] to volunteer.

Another Passing

Ardyth Wagner passed away in a tragic accident at her cabin in Kananaskis on June 26. She was 81 years old. She frequently attended community events particularly the Community Potlucks. She always brought shrimp to share. She was a master at fly tying and loved to fish. She won several fishing tournaments. She had lots of pictures of the Kananaskis and her cabin. She had special relationships with the local squirrels. Her cabin nearby neighbour was former Premier, Jim Prentice. She lived for many years at 25th Avenue and 5th Street SW, the site of the Riverwalk building, which is currently under construction. She moved one block east when that building was sold. She worked in the petroleum industry and was proud of how she learned on her own how to make applications to the ERCB (forerunner of the Alberta Energy Regulator). She was a unique person, and she will be missed.

300 Block 25 Avenue SW

At the time of writing this in early July, we do not know the final outcome in regards to the proposed Land Use change for 306 to 312 25th Avenue SW. This matter is to go back to City Council on July 26. We will update on this in the next newsletter.

Have a Good Summer

August is a time of vacations and slow down in activities. We hope you are enjoying this summer, particularly since regulations have been significantly reduced.
