July Civic Affairs in Oakridge

Our Councillor, Jeromy Farkas, continues to have weekly Town Halls via Facebook. This has enabled us to raise questions about SW ring road, children’s playgrounds, and finally speeding and pedestrian safety in the community, both on roads and on bike paths, as discussed in the last OCA Board meeting. The SW ring road and connector road start-up dates are now October 2020, with potential impacts to traffic, particularly on 90th Avenue

We also continue to collaborate with other adjacent communities on a multi-community Local Area Plan (LAR) and other items related to Civic Affairs and City Planning. Our District 32 refers to Oakridge, Palliser, Bayview, Pump Hill (PBPCA), Braeside, Cedarbrae, and Woodbine and Woodlands (Woodcreek CA). We had our last meeting on June 1, and continue to see benefit in sharing concerns.

The Bike Skills Park in S Glenmore has now started construction, so we are in touch with the City on limiting the construction impacts. As mentioned last month, we are not satisfied with the City’s piecemeal approach to S Glenmore Park, so we had our first meeting on the S Glenmore Park and adjacent Natural Areas to try and limit/influence further piecemeal development in the park development

The Co-Op redevelopment and the Quinterra Legacy Park are still affected by the City reviews and the current COVID-19 emergency. We continue to try and get updates

Stay safe – physically apart – but socially together as we relax the restrictions and monitor the outcomes.
