Woodcreek’s August Executive Message

Hello Everyone,

I’m writing this in early July, just after dramatic changes in the rules we’ve been living by for what seems like forever. On behalf of the Executive Board, I’d like to thank you for your patience as we navigated the sometimes-confusing COVID guidelines. Even today, people aren’t sure where masks are required or are optional, and there is concern about new variants. Some people may still be cautious about masks and social distancing, and we would ask you to respect that.

You are reading this in August, after a busy July that will have included many events under the loosened restrictions. I’m sure we all have the sincere hope they don’t contribute to a fourth wave.

In addition to some new activities in August (watch for Food Trucks, a Zen Maker Lab summer camp, and Calgary Sport and Social Club in our basketball and rink), we are looking at putting our usual fall event schedule into place. We are beginning the planning for a family event, a community clean-up, our annual craft sale, and others. Many of our tenants are returning to the hall, and we can’t wait! However, as you’re probably sick of hearing, all of that will be subject to public health guidelines. We may get little notice of changes.

We recently consolidated our social media presence so that our web page, Facebook, and Instagram all have consistent and timely messaging. Those will be the places to look for the most up to date news about our events. If you would like to contribute, please send that to our office.

The Woodcreek Chronicle should arrive in your mailbox early in the month. My personal copy has sometimes not arrived, but we don’t know if it’s just me, or part of a larger pattern. If you do not receive your copy by the end of the first week, please contact the office. We would like to better understand this so we can properly address it. An electronic copy is available on our website (https://www.woodcreekcommunity.ca), and some paper copies are available at the office.

Watch for a special meeting this fall to vote on minor changes to our Bylaws. These are in response to changing our membership to a rolling year instead of from September to August. That means whenever you buy a membership, it will be good for a year, and can easily be renewed online.

We are thrilled that our membership numbers are going up, and we thank you for buying a new membership or renewing an existing one. These memberships help us provide the various programs and services to the community.
