May is membership month!

Join SECA to help us build a more neighbourly community where there is a sense of belonging and community pride. Please see the memberships page in this newsletter for more information.

If you live in Evergreen Estates (street name includes Evergreen), Shawnee Park, Shawnee Slopes, Fish Creek Exchange, or Beacon Hill, SECA is your community Association.

Membership volunteers: We are recruiting flyer delivery volunteers to help with Membership Month in May. As membership revenue funds our operations, this campaign is foundational to our organization’s success. Please contact us if you can spare some time in May to deliver membership materials to nearby homes.

Events and Programs: SECA has taken a conservative approach to programs and events during the pandemic. We are eager to return to events and programs when it is safe. Sadly, our annual Stampede Breakfast is cancelled again. We anticipate that the first events to come back will be our Community Campfires and our children’s Nature Play Program. Stay tuned.

Building on our assets: Our neighbourhood is blessed with pathways and parks that are bursting with fresh spring growth. Being adjacent to Fish Creek Provincial Park means SECA residents enjoy many additional opportunities to connect with nature, to refresh our minds, to exercise, and to socialize safely.

Taking pride in our community: We are indeed fortunate to live in this location. With some additional investment we could enhance our pathways and parks. Why not express your community pride by becoming more actively engaged? It could be as simple as taking along a bag on your next walk and picking up a few pieces of garbage. Or perhaps helping SECA to coordinate a City program where volunteers would install playful pathway markings like hopscotch. Or let’s explore creative bench installations along pathways to help make walking more enjoyable for everyone, especially for seniors and young children who can’t manage longer distances. Could you lend your project management expertise to this cause for the greater good of the entire community?

Volunteering with SECA is rewarding! We have openings on the Board of Directors and on committees. Or, if you would prefer to volunteer for specific tasks, volunteers with some basic social media skills, newsletter editing, and/or use of Mailchimp, would be warmly welcomed.

We can serve you best when we are connected! Receive our electronic newsletters by emailing [email protected] and like our Facebook page – @ShawneeEvergreenYYC. Our Board meetings are open, though we appreciate knowing if you plan to attend so that we can manage our agenda. If you are a parent to children (up to 12 years of age) and want to be alerted to the restart of our SECA Plays programs, please email [email protected] to join the mailing list.

The Board of Directors is always interested in your feedback!
