Auburn Bay Notes

Happy Summer Everyone! I hope you are looking forward to the beautiful weather that is in our forecast as much as I am.

The Community Garden is up and running and we are very excited to see the plots coming along and the veggies that are well on their way; it has even inspired me to plant some goodness in my garden beds at home. The garden hosted an Open House in June, and it was such a pleasure to meet so many members of both the garden and the community at large. The garden is run and cared for entirely by volunteers and is open to all residents of Auburn Bay, so come by anytime to see what we are growing!

If you haven’t done so already, check out www.nuleaffarms.ca and have a look at their amazing greens and herbs; they are a local company using vertical farming techniques and hydroponic technologies to produce amazing, fresh, produce. They are giving a portion of the profits back to the Community Garden, so please have a look at their website and enter “AuburnBay” in the coupon code section when you order. You can either pick them up directly at the warehouse or every Friday they can be delivered right to your door in Auburn Bay for $4. We toured the facility in June and the amount and quality of produce they can provide is impressive.

If you haven’t heard, there are now two depots for the Community Kitchen Good Food Boxes in Auburn Bay. The Good Food Boxes are a charity initiative to provide high quality, fresh, fruits and vegetables at incredibly affordable prices for everyone to enjoy. They are available in three sizes and vary from $25 to 35. If you have been ordering from the Facebook group, please continue to do so, if not please check out the order form on the CA website, www.auburnbayca.ca. Last month, we had over 30 boxes delivered to Depot #2 and it is amazing how much the program has grown!

We had over 38 volunteers show up for the Auburn Bay Parks and Greenspace clean up on June 5, so a huge thank you to those volunteers. And thank you so much A&W Auburn Station for donating coupons for a free burger to the volunteers who came out to help. The event was a great success, and the community looks wonderful.

We ended up in a challenging situation with the Cranston/Auburn Bay City Clean-Up as we found out only one day prior to the event that the Cranston CA had cancelled it. Knowing how valuable this service is, we teamed up with a couple of dedicated City employees and were able to have the event moved to the Prince of Peace parking lot and we ended up with a ton (literally!) of garbage, metals to be recycled, and mattresses for recycling.

Do you want to get involved in the community? Given that so many of the wonderful events and activities we enjoy rely completely on volunteers (Parade of Lights, Stampede Breakfast, Community Clean-Up, Family Games Day, Community Garden) we need more people to step forward and volunteer to help the Community Association. We would also like to know the best way to communicate with you about such events and volunteer opportunities? Please take the time to fill out our form at https://forms.gle/tfRYbtK4x6i6dYap7.

Did you know that Auburn Bay has a large number of social media groups? There is a Pet Group, Seniors Group, Grillers Group, Ladies Group, Food Lovers Group, Gardening Group, Community Garden Group, Ladies Clothing Exchange Group… the list is nearly endless! Make sure to go and check out these fabulous interest groups out!

Currently, the Community Association has no plans for any community events for the summer, but we will post any updates on the CA website and Facebook page if that changes. Additionally, the CA will be having its next meeting (online) on September 8. These meetings are open to anyone, and we look forward to having you there for your input and participation.

And sadly, it is almost a daily post that someone is almost being hit in a crosswalk, please make sure to drive with care and attention so that we can all arrive home safe.
