March is Community Association Awareness Month

The Sandstone MacEwan Community Association (SMCA) Board consists of ten Board Members who manage community initiatives such as the Community Clean-Up, free Compost Day, planter program, rink management, and so on. We are currently finalizing plans for our community gardens project in partnership with the Berkshire Citadel Church. Look for volunteering opportunities at one of our events.

The initiatives we undertake are made possible by proceeds from casino funds, limited grants, and your membership contributions. Your membership fees support our regular programs, and this year we will have the community garden and rink building that will be significant ‘add ons’.

The Berkshire Citadel Church will be opening their doors every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, where you are welcome to use their gym to walk, stretch, or even sit and have a coffee. If you are tired of trying to navigate slippery sidewalks, then stop by for some exercise. You can sit in their foyer where they have café style tables; water, tea, and coffee will be available free of charge!

Thank you to those who responded to our survey we sent out regarding us offering online versus in-person classes, such as yoga. As a result, we are looking at partnering with the Berkshire Citadel Church to offer in-person yoga classes on Saturday mornings. More information regarding these classes, and potentially others, will soon be made available.

The community compost day will be back in May! Big Man Landscaping has agreed to sponsor this event once again and we cannot thank them enough. This is an extremely popular event with individuals lining up prior to our 10:00 am start. For the first time, we are going to allow those with a SMCA $20 membership the opportunity to have access to the compost for the first hour. Volunteers will be available to assist those who wish to purchase a membership. If you would like to purchase a membership but do not have the funds available, please email us at [email protected].

We are excited to let you know we are closer to having our development permit application approved for our shed replacement on Sandstone Drive. Our goal is to have a larger building so we can officially operate our Skating Program out of it next fall.
