Members, please join us at our 10th Annual General Meeting on April 12 at 7:00 pm at the Beer Hall of Symons Valley Ranchsage For those who cannot attend in person, we will also broadcast live via Microsoft Teams (link in the notice, on our Facebook/Instagram/Twitter accounts @sagehillyyc, or on our website at www.sagehillyyc.com.) Up for election: President, 2nd Vice President, Secretary, and Directors 1, 3, and 5.

With our AGM days away, I can’t help but reflect on some of the accomplishments this past year- despite significant obstacles from the pandemic. Yes, membership is still down by 50% of pre-pandemic numbers, yet our seasoned group of directors managed to pull off nine events! Food Trucks, Rise Up Live Performance, Symons Valley Community Clean-up, Street Side Market, Stampede Round Up, Our 9th Annual Christmas Light Display Contest, the Winter Festival, and ice maintenance of the adopt-a-rink. Also completed was maintenance on all three little libraries. Thank you to our current board of Directors, Adam Loria, Rabah Swaidek, Anh Lien, Steph Wing, Emmanuel Akinlabi, Beverly Sherban, Sarah Jamieson, and Orn Harnnarong for all your hard work this past year. And to their families thank you for allowing them to donate their time and energy to our wonderful community.

Rink maintenance is now complete for the season, and I wish I could say the season was great but weather was simply not on anyone’s side this year. For much of the winter, it was either too cold, too windy, or too warm to flood. This summer, we plan to complete some minor dirt work to fix a few problematic areas of the rink and reduce outside slope of the berm and apply more grass seed. The solar light structure will be taken down and redesigned to improve light coverage and overall site cosmetics. We are seeking a reliable volunteer skid steer owner/operator to do some grading/spreading, and a welder/metal fabricator to help design a new temporary solar light pole structure. If you feel like this is you, please connect with us via email or on our social media platforms.

This past year we established or renewed 24 partnerships with: Servus Credit Union, Blizzards Soccer, Sportball, Leopold’s Tavern, RonMor Developers, Genesis Land, Anderson Builders, Atlas Landscape Supplies, AirTech Services, Creekside Boston Pizza, Mucho Burrito, Calgary Foundation, Royal Pizza, Sage Hill Bottle Depot, Cobbs Bread, Bow Tie Pizza, Sage Hill Coop, YYC Food Trucks, Vivo, Rise Up Calgary, Calgary Arts Development, Friends of the Federation of Calgary Communities, Calgary Parks, and Great News Media.

Our 2022 goals will focus on returning to normal with in-person board meetings and events, earning back memberships, fundraising for the community garden, strengthening existing and forming new partnerships, recruiting new volunteers to our board, improving the function and cosmetics of the rink, and changing our official address to a post office box in Sage Hill Quarter Shoppers Drug Mart vs current Creekside Shoppers location. And of course, we will be here to review and offer comments to building permits and advocate for our community at every opportunity.

Thank you,

Ross Utigard

President, Sage Hill Community Association
