Rutland Park’s Traffic and Development Report for April

I would just like to highlight what has been happening/going on behind the scenes this past month, in no particular order:

We continue to advocate for the baseball diamonds at Richmond Green. We have met with a number of Councillors and have received significant support in terms of wanting to see the ball diamonds kept as park space. Because of the importance of municipal park space, the Municipal Government Act states that a municipality must put forward a public notice when they intend to sell park space. The City has put forward this public notice and we reached out to let residents know of the notice and where emails could be sent. In the meantime, we are looking for a Councillor to put forward a motion to stop the sale of the baseball diamonds, or at least put everything on hold until Water Resources has made a firm commitment as to where they will be expanding.

We were happy to support an application by Wild Rose Brewery for temporary (five years) covered outdoor seating space. We look forward to more amenities being added in Currie.

We wish to welcome Bob Morrison, who is a retired planner, to our development committee. Bob has been heavily involved in the work we have done on Richmond Green, and we are grateful that he is joining us in a more official capacity.

Our weather has been very erratic this year and has negatively impacted our ice rink. Unfortunately, keeping the large rink running is no longer possible. We wish to thank all of the dedicated volunteers who took the time to get things up and running! You are appreciated.

Don has now stepped down as treasurer, so we really need someone to take over this role. In the meantime, I will take over as acting Treasurer. This is not something I want to do for an extended period of time. Craig and I will now both be covering two major positions in our association, and we need some other volunteers to step up. We would be happy to get you up and running as either our Treasurer or our Infrastructure Director—please join us!

If you have not already signed up for our email updates, please do so at our website, rutlandparkcommunity.com. The City often gives us very short notice for upcoming events, and this is the quickest way for us to reach you. Please also join us on Facebook at Rutland Park Community Association. Thank you for your ongoing support.
