The Edgemont Community Association’s LEGO Mania Competition took place on April 22, boasting over 100 entries! The response was so great that we had to cap registration early to accommodate all the submissions. LEGO entries were submitted from Edgemont residents and people from other communities within and around Calgary.

Community members of all ages participated in this lively and creative competition by submitting their original builds. We had four age categories spanning from under seven years up to adults. What is an original build? It is not a kit, but rather, a construction made up solely by the participant.

Participants dropped off their creations the night before and then came back the next day for an afternoon of viewing, live-build competitions, and to collect their goodie bags and prizes! Live-build competitions took place throughout the course of the afternoon as friends and family teamed up to build themed creations in only 10 minutes with a bucket of random LEGO pieces. Thank you to everyone who submitted a LEGO creation; they were all amazing!

Community events like this would not be possible without the support and involvement of our community partners and sponsors. Thank you to our Platinum Sponsors: MaxGreen Windows, Siding, and Roofing, and Co-op Calgary. Thank you to our Gold Sponsor: The Brick Bin. Thank you to our Silver Sponsors: Telus, Real Canadian Superstore, Safeway, Famoso Neapolitan Pizzeria, Dolci di Delia, and Michelle Rempel.

We’d like to acknowledge the hard work and commitment of our dedicated volunteers and staff working behind the scenes. The organizing committee was led by board director, Scott Thompson, and helped by Barb Elms, Elspeth Kirk, MacKenna Posey, Rachel Wierzbicki, and Rob Wetherell. Thank you to MacKenna for the strong advertising, registration management, and event design. Thanks to Agnes Thompson for designing and producing our fantastic volunteer t-shirts. Helping at the Saturday display and awards show were: Susan and Kendall Schafer, Aileen Shewchuk, Yifei Chen, the Thompson family – Agnes, Jack, Eleanor, and Ben – Aubrey Pledger, Rick Wierzbicki, and Jeff Coombes. We were also very fortunate to have the support of local LEGO experts Troy Marshall, Jon Martin, and Mike Allan.

We are grateful for Silver Springs Community Association’s willingness to share their knowledge and experience for our first-time event.

This was a very successful event and many people are already looking forward to ECA’s LEGO Mania Competition 2024! Keep an eye on our social media and in our newsletter for updates on registration next year.
