This year, CMCA has once again received a grant from the federal government to hire three summer students to bring activities and programs to Canyon Meadows. Two of the students will be tasked with planning, organizing, and operating a summer 2023 drop-in program for kids at the community hall. They will also plan and offer additional special events using the CMCA Crazy Carts and Xbox systems as well as the very popular Slip and Slide days. Please check our website for updates on the dates, times, and cost. The third summer student will be kept busy doing maintenance in and around the community centre.

The Community Cleanup Day is just around the corner, planned for July 22 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. The City of Calgary Waste and Recycling Services and Community Strategies will be on-site at the community with two packer trucks ready to take away all your unwanted household items and property trash. Please do not bring any compostable yard waste to the cleanup – use your green cart. Cardboard must be disposed of at the local recycling depot. The packer trucks will not accept any organic materials or cardboard.

Additionally, CMCA has arranged for vendors to be on-site for electronic recycling, scrap metal collection, and gently used household items for donation. For CMCA members only, disposal of used/outdated propane tanks and secure paper shredding (two boxes per member limit please) will be available. Sanil will be doing pickups for our members that are unable to transport large items to the community centre on cleanup day. Please call or email Bonnie in the CMCA office to have your name added to the list. You must have a current membership to use this service.

The following items may not be brought to the cleanup site:

• Paint

• Railroad ties

• Household chemicals

• Hazardous materials

• Light fixtures with Ballasts

• Fluorescent light tubes

• Refrigerators or water coolers (anything that contains Freon)

• Used oil

Our cleanup day gets busier every year, so please be patient with the volunteers that are here to help make the cleanup successful. We all do our best to get everyone through the lineup as fast as we can.

See you at the cleanup!

Bonnie
