The WHCA Transportation Committee works with the Planning Committee to advocate for vehicle, pedestrian, cycling, and transit safety and access in our neighbourhood.

The WHCA Transportation and Mobility Committee exists to:

• Work with the City of Calgary on Transportation plans and issues related to our community.

• Work with community members by letting them know how they can resolve transportation issues.

• Advocate for our community to get new and improved transportation research and devices.

Our Committee Meets Monthly and Has Four Current Priorities:

1. Kensington Rd Safety Measures

We are expecting safety improvements on Kensington Rd this summer. These changes arose from two children getting hit on Kensington Rd in 2022 and the advocacy of resident Patrick McKay, our mobility committee, and our councilor Terry Wong. Info is here: https://www.calgary.ca/roads/kensington-rd-safety-improvements.html. Importantly there will be new flashing beacon crosswalks on 16 St and 18 A St. This is great news for our community.

2. Protected Bike Lanes on 5 and 6 Ave NW

The route from 10 St NW to Helicopter Park connects a community pool, parks, community associations, schools, daycares, and residences. We believe a protected bike lane beginning with a seasonal adaptive bike lane would enjoy wide usage. We continue advocating for things that promote safe bike usage and more mobility options, especially across Crowchild Trail.

3. 19 St Streetscape

We continue to work with the city to improve the streetscape after a consultation that was done several years ago. We continue to prioritize the pedestrian experience.

4. Post Construction Mobility Fixes

We continue to advocate for sidewalk, curb, and alley fixes that are supposed to occur post-construction.
