Rutland Park Development and Traffic Report for June

I would just like to highlight what has been happening/going on behind the scenes this past month, in no particular order.

We are still awaiting a final decision from the insurance company with regards to our hall floor collapse. At least discussions are underway at this point, so hopefully we will have a final determination in the not-too-distant future. The hall will remain closed until further notice. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Volunteer Secretary and Infrastructure Directors needed. Chantal O. will continue in the role of Acting Secretary until June 30, 2024. Mark Y. continues to act as the Infrastructure designate for our community, but we really need someone to take over this position to oversee our facilities. Please email [email protected] if you are able to join our team!

Welcome Lisa L. who will be joining us as Treasurer in June. Thank you, Gary A. for your recent coverage of this position.

The City has indicated that the Richmond Green Regional Park baseball diamond site has been sold to a developer and that there are no sales conditions. We will provide more information as it becomes available. In the meantime, you can find the final design for upgrades to the remaining park space here at https://engage.calgary.ca/RichmondGreen.

Save the Date – Neighbour Day – June 15, 2024. Thank you, Danny Greene, for volunteering to head this event at our Skateshack again this year!

Mark Y. and I met with a senior transportation planner at the City to discuss traffic calming measures along Richmond Rd between 32 St SW and 29 St SW. While we were on site, the slowest speed was captured at 52 km/h with speeds up to 72 km/h. We are now slated for traffic calming measures in spring/summer of 2025 on the south side of Richmond Rd. The north side will require further investigation.

Traffic has been jumping the keyhole crescent off Richmond Road onto 31 St SW to avoid congestion. Cable wiring and a tree planting will be added there as a safety measure this spring/summer.

Save the Date – Community Cleanup – September 29, 2024. Our Community Cleanup will be late this year, as we were not able to get any of the dates we requested. We are fortunate to get this date, as there are more communities participating every year. Volunteers will be needed so please keep your eyes open for details in the upcoming months!

At the time this is being sent off, we still don’t know what the outcome is with regards to the blanket rezoning which has been proposed for Calgary. Thousands of people have submitted comments and almost 1,000 people have registered to speak to Council. We will provide an update next month.

If you have not already signed up for our email updates, please do so at our website, www.rutlandparkcommunity.com. The City often gives us very short notice for upcoming events, and this is the quickest way for us to reach you. Please also join us on Facebook by searching Rutland Park Community Association.

Thank you for your ongoing support.
