Hello Neighbours!

It’s a wrap!

McKenzie Lake Community Centre’s parking lot was bustling on April 28 as we hosted the Annual Community Cleanup event. We couldn’t have pulled this off without the helping hands from Summit Church and the many volunteers from the community and board. A big shout out to the City of Calgary who were on hand with the necessary knowledge and equipment to dispose of all that unwanted trash. The City Coordinator said it was “the busiest he has seen.” So, hats off to a proud community coming together to make it cleaner and better for all! We look forward to next spring when we can do it all again!

School is coming to a close and I’m betting the kids (and parents) are getting excited for their last day of classes! McKenzie Lake Community Centre provides a wonderful before and after school program as well as our newly implemented kindergarten program. These programs are full; however, we are always taking on-going registration. Feel free to contact our office at 403-257-1823 or email [email protected] to be put on the waitlist for our September programming. Should a spot become available for your child, you will be contacted directly.

Stampede is just around the corner! Have you shined up those boots and dusted off your hat? Grab your partner and sway on over to the community centre on July 7 for our Annual Stampede Breakfast hosted this year by our good friends from Summit Church. The whole family will enjoy a yummy traditional Stampede breakfast served from 9:00 to 11:00 am. Toe tapping tunes are also on the menu! So come on down to the Centre for an always fun neighbourly gathering and let’s celebrate this annual city-wide tradition together! Yee-haw y’all!

Have you heard? Everyone is talking about it. What? You haven’t heard? Well rumour has it that Sunset Sips and Socials are happening on select Fridays all summer long at the community centre rink! That’s right! On July 12 and 26 and August 5 and 29, Summit Church with the help of the Community Board, will be hosting Friday Night Socials in the rink between 6:00 and 9:00 pm. Street beats and summer heat are on the menu, as well as a cash bar (wink wink). So, grab your lawn chairs and walk, ride, or bike over to the rink to enjoy lovely sunset views and neighbourly sips with your friends in the community!

There is so much more to talk about friends! Upcoming events beyond our Stampede Breakfast and Sunset Sips and Socials include the McKenzie Frenzie, the Kids Halloween Howler, and of course, the Kids Christmas Party. We are working on some adult fun nights and events too. So, keep your eyes open for the ‘Neighbourhood Happenings’ listing in the Gazette and on all our social media platforms for up-to-the-minute information on these and other ‘Hood Happenings.

As an ending note, please keep in mind that you are always needed and appreciated as a valuable volunteer. If you have time to spare and are looking for something meaningful to do, please contact our office at 403-257-1823 to add your name to our volunteer list. It takes a village to bring these events to your community, so do please reach out. We would love to hear from you!

Until then, smile with your neighbours and always choose kindness.
