Rutland Park Development and Traffic Report for August

I would just like to highlight what has been happening/going on behind the scenes this past month, in no particular order:

We are pleased to welcome Lisa L. to the board as our new Treasurer. Thank you for volunteering with us! Thank you as well to Chantal O. for taking on the Secretary position as a permanent role!

Special shout out to Danny Greene and Chantal O. for organizing another great Neighbour Day! Thank you as well to all of the volunteers who chipped in to make it a huge success!

Just a reminder that our Community Cleanup will be on September 29. Thank you, Sue H. and Chantal O. for organizing this event again this year! Please reach out to Sue H. at [email protected] if you are able to volunteer for this event.

We hope you took the opportunity to provide feedback on Sarina’s proposed development on the Richmond Green Regional Park baseball diamonds. We identified several concerns. The City indicated the site would allow for approximately 284 units, whereas the developer is seeking 400 units. This would have serious traffic implications, especially when considering the proposed Viscount Bennett development which will bring traffic to the same intersection. In addition, a six-storey structure across the entire east side of the site will create significant massing and overshadowing concerns, especially since the site is significantly higher than the remaining park space. There will be additional opportunities to provide feedback on the proposed development, so do watch for updates.

We have resubmitted our Proof of Loss for the hall floor collapse. Our insurer rejected the City’s estimate for the repairs because it was not specific enough. In order to get a more specific estimate, another $32,000 of engineering would be required and the City is not prepared to take this on without any guarantee of coverage. Escalating this through several complaint channels, the insurer may finally be getting their own estimate. This has been an extremely stressful and time-consuming process. Hopefully, we will have some good news to report next month. Thank you for your patience.

We hope you are having a safe and wonderful summer! Board meetings will resume in September, but we are still checking emails if you need to reach us.

If you have not already signed up for our email updates, please do so at our website, www.rutlandparkcommunity.com. The City often gives us very short notice for upcoming events, and this is the quickest way for us to reach you. Please also join us on our Facebook page—Rutland Park Community Association.

Thank you for your ongoing support.
