Unveiling a New Ranchlands Community Mural!

We have exciting news for our Ranchlands community! The Ranchlands Community Association is thrilled to announce that the outdoor mural, sponsored by Calgary Arts Development, is nearing completion and will soon adorn our community association building.

After gathering community input and completing three rounds of revisions with the Ranchlands Board of Directors, we have finalized a design that beautifully captures the essence and stories of Ranchlands. This autumn, you might spot the talented artist Julian Lee working on the mural outside the community association building. Feel free to stop by and say hello while you watch the mural come to life.

The official unveiling will take place outside the community association building on October 27. The exact time is still to be determined, so please stay tuned to our Facebook page for updates.

We look forward to celebrating this exciting addition to our community with you! A big thank you to Calgary Arts Development for their generous financial support, which made this mural possible.

Edible Forest Just Keeps Getting Better and Better!

If you have been by the Ranchlands Edible Forest recently, you might notice something new!

Over the past couple months, our staff have been working hard on grant applications to expand the Edible Forest and were able to secure not one, but two grants to fund this!

We want to extend a huge thank you to ChangeX who provided the bulk of the funding through the AWS In Communities Calgary Fund, as well as the City of Calgary for additional funding through the Inspiring Neighbourhoods grant.

Over the September long weekend, ten concrete planters and three concrete benches were moved into position thanks to an amazing Ranchlander who volunteered their time to run the heavy equipment for us. Once the trees get a bit bigger, the canopy will provide a beautiful, shaded place to sit and enjoy some fresh air.

While our initial plans did also include adding fruit bushes, that portion had to be put on hold due to the water restrictions, so the remaining grant funds are being held in reserve until spring when we can continue with this work.

We are thrilled to make progress on this project and to have already had fruit produced on the trees this year. Though a quick reminder to please not harvest from the trees just yet, they are still quite young and require a very gentle hand for harvest to avoid damages. Also, please do not take cuttings from the trees.

The Mischievous Witch Hat Hunt

This autumn, something unexpected has happened in Ranchlands! Recently, a group of friendly fairy witches gathered together to view the new mural at the community hall. Inspired by the amazing design, each witch went all out, not only dressing to impress with fancy hats, but also bringing along a little animal companion.

As the night drew to a close, their faithful but playful companions got a little bored and decided to pull a trick on them, stealing all of their hats! Having hidden them across Ranchlands, in bushes, trees, and other surprising spots, the fairy witches had no choice but to head home without the hats and they have asked us to collect them on their behalf. As punishment for being so naughty, the silly animals who caused all the trouble are being forced to remain behind and help with the search.

We are asking all Ranchlanders, big and small, to be on the lookout for one of these very special hats.

If you find one, bring it to the Ranchlands Community Association office (7713 Ranchview Drive NW) during office hours, and you’ll be rewarded with a special prize!

Hints will be posted as we learn them, from October 27 to October 30 and found hats can be returned Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
