Coach Hill’s Community Updates for November

Utility Box Artwork is Complete!

After some challenging weather and a few weeks of painting, the utility box on Old Banff Coach Road and Patterson Boulevard is complete. Each symbol is from the community engagement and survey, and the four sides are representative of each season. We think it’s a lovely addition to the neighbourhood and hope you do too!

Off-Leash Dog Concerns

We have had a few people reach out with concerns after an off-leash dog attacked a leashed dog at the Coach Hill Fields. We are limited in what we can do, and when we reached out to the City we were told that there have been no complaints logged at 3-1-1. If you see an off-leash dog, you can report it to 3-1-1. If there is a dog incident, you can report it to 3-1-1. This is how they track stats, and they will not provide action until there is a documented history of issues in an area.

However, we should also have some understanding for people who are legitimately trying to socialise, train, and exercise their rambunctious dog. There are many options out there for dogs who may not obey commands or are reactive to other dogs, such as dog training, dog walkers, and even private off-leash parks where you can safely work with your dog to improve their behaviour.

We are also lucky to have an actual off-leash park in our community, along Old Banff Coach Road and Coach Hill Road, but if you want to visit one of the other 159 here is the full list and map: www.calgary.ca/parks/off-leash-locations.html.

Hub Update

We are sending out our bid package in November to have a contractor secured by the end of the year for an early spring start. If you are a contractor or know someone who may be interested in bidding, please reach out to us at [email protected].

We continue to apply for grants and gratefully accepting donations (you can donate here: www.chph.ca/outdoor-activity-hub). We applied for the Blue Cross Built Together Grant and intend to apply for the Doc Seaman Amateur Sport Grant and other suitable grants.

We learned that we were successful in our application for the Energising Spaces Grant which will go towards facility lighting. Another positive piece of news is that we discovered $1,200 from the 2011 playground project account that we moved into our current Hub project account.

Building this Hub has been a long process, with many bumps in the road. We thank you all for your patience with the process and we will continue to work hard to get it done in 2025. As always, if you have any expertise you would like to offer us, or more in-depth questions, please reach out!
