Hidden Valley and Hanson Ranch residents will notice some significant upgrades completed at the Hidden Hut and outdoor rink over the past several months
The boards of our outdoor rink came down for a full replacement of the rink boards. With help from the City of Calgary, Parks Foundation Calgary, and the Calgary Flames Rink Award, we removed all the old broken rink boards and replaced them with new UV resistant boards that we hope will last for years to come. The boards were also strengthened with numerous additional steel support beams. The project was a long time coming and we extend a heartfelt thank you to the many HVCA board members over the past few years that really were the catalysts in getting this project done. A reminder that it still takes a lot of work to flood and clean the ice over the winter. If you use the rink, please consider becoming part of our rink crew. It’s a tough job for a few volunteers, but with a large group of “rink rats”, it becomes more than manageable.
In addition, we’d like to ask for your help in keeping our rink in top shape, and there’s a few small things you can do. Please don’t shoot the pucks at the chain link above the boards. It simply causes the chain link to bow and shortens its life span. And, if you spot any deficiencies in the boards, or the new rink boards, please let us know immediately. That way we can stay ahead of any future repairs. As always, our community is a mix of very young, and not so young skaters. Some have played a lot of hockey. Others could be playing for the first time. Please be respectful of others on the ice with you and share our fantastic rink. Let’s play some hockey!
