Taking a Break from Our Screens
by Ameera P., a volunteer with the EYP
Between work, school, and entertainment, technology and screen time have become a regular part of our day-to-day activity; it’s pretty much unavoidable. Most of us spend way more time than we actually realize on our devices, it’s easy and mindless. Checking messages, laughing at reels, watching TikTok, and the instant dopamine release that comes with it is just a bonus. Before we know it, hours have passed, our minds feel heavy, and our bodies are more unrested than when we started. This is where the power of the pause comes in, it can be as simple as a fifteen or thirty-minute walk, but no headphones, no phone, just you and nature. In these moments of pause, we notice how the air feels, the way the sun hits our back, the sound of our thoughts, unfiltered and unjudged. Stretch for ten minutes, or just lie back down on the floor, ground yourself.
Life becomes even more freeing to live when you realize you don’t always have to be available, reachable or constantly entertained, you can do nothing and be ok. This week give yourself a pause, because you deserve that peace and it’s closer than you think it is.
