We’ve had an exciting summer at the KGCA!
This year, we were thrilled to receive a $15,000 grant from Calgary Arts Development through the Community-Run Public Art Microgrant Program. With this support, we set out to enhance the KGCA greenspace with some vibrant and engaging public art!
The project was led by two talented local artists: Nicole Kurceba and daniel j kirk. Both brought incredible energy and creativity to the space.
daniel gave our “Killarney-Glengarry” sign on the north side of the building a much-needed fresh coat of paint, brightening up a familiar landmark. He also designed and installed a series of colourful, whimsical pieces along the chain link fence, helping to visually separate the playground from the parking lot in a fun and imaginative way.
Nicole took on the transformation of the garbage corral fencing, turning it into a lively mural that brought more than just colour—it brought people together. Her landscape of the Canadian Rockies pays tribute to our home in Calgary, and by inviting community members to paint each flower, she made the piece a true reflection of community spirit and collaboration.
This mural is something our community will treasure for years to come. It’s not just beautiful artwork—it’s a collective expression of who we are and the place we call home.
A huge thank you to Nicole and daniel for their passion and creativity in bringing this project to life, and to Calgary Arts Development for believing in our vision and making it possible.
