Spotlight on Pilates Classes with Community Member Andrea Satveit – Our Partner in Wellness
What is Pilates? Pilates is exercise that strengthens your core and improves posture, flexibility, and body awareness. It focuses on strengthening deep core muscles in your abdominals, hips, and back to improve stability and control. Pilates promotes attention to alignment, balanced muscle development, mindful movement, and breath support.
Pilates can be done on a mat, in a chair, or on specialized equipment. It can be customized for all ages and fitness levels. Pilates can be used in rehabilitation and in many different positions, such as seated, standing, or laying down.
Have you tried Pilates? Andrea Satveit is an Occupational Therapist and a STOTT Certified Pilates Instructor who is passionate about helping people live their best lives. She taught classes at the hall this spring and will continue to do so Wednesday mornings, starting in September. If there is sufficient interest, she will add a beginner class for those of us who may need a chair or other considerations to get started.
