Our Haysboro volunteer group is made up of neighbours who share one goal: making our community an even more vibrant and welcoming place to live. This summer, our team was busy turning that goal into reality!

In July alone, we completed four beautiful projects that you may have spotted while out walking or biking through the neighbourhood:

• Labyrinth Succulent Rocks – The playground beside the Community Centre now has succulents tucked into the rocks around the labyrinth, adding a pop of green and life.

• Crescent Flower Beds – Two new crescent-shaped flower beds now brighten the park along 94 Ave between Elbow Dr and Haddon Rd.

• Pathway Pocket Gardens – Former weedy patches at the west end of 89 Ave, where the path leads to the overpass, were transformed into low-growing, ground-cover gardens.

• Bus Stop Mini Garden – The bus stop at Elbow Dr and 89 Ave now features a charming mini garden to brighten your wait.

These transformations were powered by dedicated volunteers who showed up rain or shine to dig, haul, rake, shovel, plant, and water. Our volunteer crew is about 20 strong, but there’s always room for more green thumbs (or willing hands)! A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to making Haysboro more beautiful this summer.

Looking ahead:

• This fall, we’ll be planting bulbs to bring spring blooms to our community.

• Over the winter, we’ll be applying for grants and making plans for a new community garden at the Community Centre.

Special thanks to those who donated supplies and support:

• Andrea L., Janet C., Teresa M., and Scott J. – Mulch and dirt/

• Glenmore Landing Safeway – Plenty of much-needed cardboard

• Nancy and Wendel McConnell – Rocks

• Mike and Sue T. – Soil

• Jackie P., Susan D., and Jerry – Plants

• Southwood and Oakwood Communities – Additional soil

It truly takes a village to bring these projects to life, and we are so grateful for the hard work, generosity, and community spirit that made it happen.
