WHMCA’s President’s Message for October

Two significant events have happened since the last WHMCA newsletter. In August, the Alberta Utilities Commission announced it was turning down Enmax’s application to build an aboveground powerline along Midfield Heights, 17 Avenue NE, and Munro Park. Even though we were successful in opposing the overhead line, causing the AUC to make a rare decision to halt a project, Enmax will likely have another round of proposals and consultations in the future. More details are in the article in this newsletter. Secondly, the WHMCA hosted a very successful Community Cleanup on September 6. Photos and more information are also in this newsletter.

In preparation for winter skating and hockey season, the rink boards will be put up in October on a date to be confirmed. If you would like to volunteer for this, please keep an eye out for a reminder by e-newsletter or by the Rink Committee WhatsApp group. Alternatively, email [email protected].

Finally, the WHMCA Board of Directors is looking for additional board members and committee members. The Board of Directors meets the first Tuesday of every month except August starting at 7:00 pm. As a board member you can see all the aspects of how the community association works and have a say in its direction. Want to be more focused instead? The Communications and Facility and Operations committees need some additional members to progress ongoing activities and also larger projects. If any of these roles are of interest to you, please contact Alex Reed at [email protected] or 587-582-5342.
