I wanted to share the results of our recent construction project at the West Springs Cougar Ridge Community Garden. For the first time since being established in 2018, we have completed a major overhaul, thanks to extensive funding from our Community Association through AGLC fundraising.
Since our establishment, we have been struggling with erosion issues along the North, East, and West boundaries of our garden. We were able to design and install retaining walls along the North and East sides, featuring integrated garden beds that will be filled with fruit-bearing community harvest plants next spring. Along the West boundary, we replaced the eroding mulch areas with large rundle stone that will stay in place for years to come.
Throughout the garden, we removed our base layer of much and installed a weed barrier across the ground, topped off with fresh mulch, as the previous mulch was the original and had served its lifespan. Finally, we replaced our aged and weathered sign with one that will withstand years of Calgary weather.
If you’re in the area, feel free to stop by and check us out: 25 Weston Park SW.
