As the year comes to a close, we’re grateful for our wonderful community and all we’ve shared together. Wishing you a season filled with joy, connection, and good cheer.
From Our Community Connector
As your Community Connector, I’m continually inspired by the unique strengths, gifts, and abilities each neighbour brings to Shawnee Evergreen — even when we don’t always see those qualities in ourselves. So often, the things we naturally love to do — gardening, cooking, storytelling, fixing things, organizing little gatherings, or simply listening and caring — are the very skills that help bring people together.
I believe that when we pause to notice and celebrate what we each have to offer, we unlock new possibilities for connection, belonging, and fun. Every passion can become a contribution. Every smile can spark a friendship.
Together, we’re not just living side by side — we’re building a vibrant, caring community where everyone belongs, and everyone makes a difference.
Connect with me so I can learn about your passions! Email me at [email protected].
Or let’s make it even easier – you can set up a time to meet with me here: https://scheduler.zoom.us/anya-pena-egle/connector-chat-.

Community Campfires – Where Neighbours Gather and Friendships Grow
Our free seasonal campfires return on the fourth Saturday of each month, 4:00 to 6:00 pm, starting in December! Mark your calendars: December 27, January 24, February 28, March 28, April 25.
If you live in Shawnee Slopes, Shawnee Park, or Evergreen Estates, you’re invited — bring your family and guests too! SECA provides hot chocolate, hot dogs, and marshmallows to roast over the fires. Enjoy live music from a local guitarist, singing favourite tunes as you mingle and warm up by the flames. The December campfire is always in Shawnee East Park (Shawnee Blvd at Shawnee Street). Watch for location announcements on social media, on our Little Free Libraries, and on A-Frame poster displays in selected parks.
Join the Campfire Team! We’re looking for two enthusiastic volunteers to help coordinate food for these gatherings. We’ll provide the plans and mentorship — just bring your warmth and community spirit! Email [email protected] and let’s chat!
Thank You for Joining Us at SECA’s Annual General Meeting
We loved seeing neighbours reconnect and new friendships spark during the pre-meeting social time. With over 70 individuals attending, it was our biggest turn out in many years. Residents heard about SECA’s 2025 activities and exciting plans for 2026. A special thank-you to our guest speakers from the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC) for sharing updates on the potential Transit-Oriented Community development near the Fish Creek–Lacombe station. Planning and engagement will continue through 2026, and your input will be vital.

Share the Spirit of Giving – Support the Calgary Food Bank
The spirit of giving and the power of community are strong in Shawnee Evergreen. If you have a bit extra to share this holiday season, please consider supporting the Calgary Food Bank.
Thanks to the Food Bank’s partners, every $1 donated becomes $3.50 worth of nutritious food for Calgarians in need. Prefer to give non-perishable items? Most grocery stores have bins ready to accept your donations. Donate anytime at tinyurl.com/SECA-Food-Bank2025 or use QR code. Together, we can make a meaningful difference for our neighbours.

Together, we’re building a community where everyone belongs. Be part of it!
