This past month was a busy month at our Community Centre! Our Annual General Meeting, Christmas Market, learn to play Mahjong classes, a Blood Donor Clinic, a drive to gather donations for the Veteran’s Food Bank, and other events. A big thank-you goes out to all of you that participated and all the dedicated volunteers who make it all happen, well done! We love to see the Centre full and busy with a variety of events and programs.

Our Annual General Meeting was sadly a bellwether for the state of resident involvement in Cedarbrae. With a population of nearly 6,000 (as of the 2021 census) only about 50 people chose to attend. We’re better than that Cedarbrae! As ever, we ask that you get involved, have your voice heard, and be the change you want to see in the world!

This month will see our Family Break/Winter Break event on December 30. Weather permitting, we’d like to build some snow forts and snowmen, if the weather doesn’t co-operate, we’ll have games and puzzles indoors. Come join us for some family fun during the school break. The indoor season of Pickleball is now in full swing. Watch for updates as we offer Beginners classes and potentially some sessions for older children as well.

All the events happening at the Centre are only possible thanks to the hard work and dedication of our amazing volunteers. Are you looking to improve your skills? Want to add some volunteering to your resume or school applications? We welcome you to come find an opportunity to share your expertise and passion with your community! We are currently looking for volunteers to paint the Centre’s main floor kitchen. We’d also love to partner with a volunteer who is experienced in website design and maintenance. Get in touch if you’d like to take on this or another exciting new challenge!

The Cedarbrae Community League Association (CCLA) is guided by a dedicated volunteer Board of Directors, elected by the members of our community. The Board meets at the Cedarbrae Community Centre on the second Tuesday of every month at 6:30 pm, with the exception of July and August. If you’ve marked your mailbox to exclude junk mail you may not receive this newsletter, please find extra copies at the Community Centre.
