Rutland Park’s Development and Traffic Report for January

I would just like to highlight what has been happening/going on behind the scenes this past month, in no particular order:

Thank you so much to everyone who attended our AGM on November 18. We appreciate your ongoing support. Special thank you to Sandra G. of Inspire Wellness for donating two massage gift cards for additional door prizes.

It was lovely to see a large turnout at the resident-organized Remembrance Day gathering. Valour Park continues to honor our veterans.

We were planning on hosting an alternate Neighbour Day on January 31 but have been informed that we must use the proceeds prior to year end. As this is the case, we have changed the date to December 28. By the time you are reading this, we should have already had our event (including free food and free fun). Thank you to The City of Calgary and the Ward 8 Office for providing funding for our Neighbour Day event. We appreciate the support.

A resident is concerned about the number of missing pet signs in the neighbourhood and has asked that we remind you about wildlife in the area. We have both bobcats and coyotes in the community. Cats and small dogs should not be out on their own, especially at night. Wildlife is opportunistic and does not care if their food source is domesticated or wild. Please be sure and supervise your pets when they are outside.

We continue to receive funding from the City to help offset our expenses while the hall is unrentable. Reports and documentation must be provided in order to access these funds. Special thank you to Gary A. who volunteers his professional services to complete these reports for us.

We are pleased that we continue to see development applications in Currie. We look forward to the build out of the community and are anxious to see a retail/grocery component at some point. In the meantime, we have seen an application for additional multi-residential housing as well as an application for an outdoor cafe at Burwood Distillery.

A development permit application was also recently submitted for the Petro Canada station on 37 St SW. The intent is to keep and upgrade the gas station and add a restaurant component. We have expressed concerns about a takeout window at that location because the site itself is already extremely congested with traffic which also backs out onto Richardson Way at times.

If you have not already signed up for our email updates, please do so at our website, www.rutlandparkcommunity.com. The City often gives us very short notice for upcoming events, and this is the quickest way for us to reach you. Please also join us on Facebook at Rutland Park Community Association. Thank you for your ongoing support.
