As your federal Member of Parliament, I wanted to share some information about the federal pollution pricing plan and rebates, and how they will work in Alberta. The pricing—and the rebates—impact every Albertan.

After the Alberta government cancelled Alberta’s own price on pollution, Canada’s government stepped in.

We are implementing much larger cash rebates that will go to every Albertan.

Every penny collected in Alberta will stay in Alberta. And with our rebates, 8 out of 10 families will get back more cash than they pay.

Climate change is real, and we need to take action. Any credible climate plan includes a price on pollution. Economists, Nobel Laureates, major oil companies like Shell and Cenovus, and former Conservative leaders agree.

Our Liberal pollution pricing plan includes:

  1. The extra money paid on the energy you use, like gasoline and heating. The less you use, the less you pay, which provides the incentive to choose more energy efficient options.
  2. The cash rebates for every Albertan. For example, the rebate will be at least $700 for a family of four, putting cash in your pocket every year. It’s a standard amount based on the number of people in your household.

Only 2 out of 10 people – the biggest energy consumers – will spend more than they get back.

90% of the money collected will go to cash rebates for Albertans. 10% will fund Alberta energy efficiency projects.

Albertans want to do our part for a cleaner environment. By combining pollution pricing with rebates, our plan reduces pollution while also saving money for middle class Canadians.
