Home Improvement Information Session

Considering a renovation? Have questions about home improvement projects? Drop in for a free City of Calgary community information session and talk to one of the City experts for tips that can help save you time and money.

Saturday August 17, 12:00 to 3:00 pm.

Cardel Rec South, #100 – 333 Shawville Blvd. S.E.

Whether you’re looking to build a deck, thinking about a basement renovation or secondary suite, there will be City inspectors (building, electrical and plumbing), and bylaw experts on hand to give you advice about what you’ll need to get started, including:

  • Determining the specific requirements for your property
  • Talking through your project, and what would be required to make it safe
  • Answering your questions about electrical, plumbing, and building code requirements, including how to prepare for the different types of inspections
  • Providing tips on what to look for when hiring a contractor, and what to include in contracts

If you have plans drawn up, bring them and have specific questions answered and even apply for a permit on the spot, saving you a trip downtown. The City will help make sure your home improvement is safe for you and your family to enjoy. Visit calgary.ca/pdevents to find out more information.

Community Clean-Up

The Chaparral Community Association and City of Calgary Community Standards Waste and Recycling department would like to thank all the residents who came out for the spring cleanup. We collected over 28,000 kg of waste, filled an 80-yard bin of metal recycling and collected 208 cubic feet of electronics recycling. A big thank you to our volunteers who gave their time so willingly.

Didn’t make it to the community clean-up?

Calgary landfills are on extended hours until October 31. All locations have a residential Throw ‘n’ Go area for your convenience. Visit calgary.ca/landfill for driving directions and hours of each landfill site.

Chaparral Ridge Representative: As the Ridge representative, you would liaise any concerns specific to the Ridge to the CCA. Duties would include receiving and responding to emails, and attending monthly meetings, when possible.

We are looking for a volunteer who is interested in working with the Federation of Calgary Communities BSC model to impact crime and safety and increase resident engagement.

Little Free Library

Take a Book Leave a Book – Chaparral’s Little Free Libraries

The concept is simple: you leave a book or two that you don’t need any more and then borrow books that your neighbours have left. It’s a terrific way to not only encourage reading but to also get them out and about in the neighbourhood. Check one out. If you would like to have a little free library added to our directory, please contact [email protected].
