Please join me once again for our annual Ward 2 Stampede BBQ on Saturday, July 14th from 11am-2pm at Loblaws City Market in Sage Hill. This free barbecue will be a great opportunity for residents and businesses in Ward 2 to get to know each other and strengthen each other’s community connections.

Neighbour Day will be held this month on Saturday, June 16th to celebrate Calgary’s strong community spirit. I encourage all Ward 2 residents to celebrate and by hosting or attending local community events. This day is an opportunity for communities across the city to come together in the form of barbecues, block parties, cleanups and potlucks in order to meet their neighbours and celebrate where they live. Please email me your events at [email protected] as I would love to take part in your celebration!

Neighbour Day originated in 2014 to celebrate the incredible outpouring of support and generosity neighbours demonstrated after the 2013 floods. It has evolved into an annual celebration of what makes Calgary such a great city—our strong and caring communities. Visit calgary.ca/NeighbourDay for more information.

The City of Calgary has approved a bylaw that will limit public consumption of cannabis once federal legalization has taken place. In Calgary, public consumption rules for cannabis will be similar to those for public consumption of alcohol. Under the new Cannabis Consumption Bylaw, consumption of non-medical cannabis in any form (smoking, vaping, or edibles) will be prohibited in public places. A person may smoke, vape or otherwise consume cannabis on private property. An exemption to the Cannabis Consumption Bylaw will apply for medical cannabis, which may be smoked or vaped in the same areas that are allowed under the Smoking Bylaw and prohibited in the same areas.
