Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season filled with joy and celebrations amongst friends and family. To our friends in the Chinese community, a Happy New Year filled with luck and good fortune, as the Year of the Rat begins on January 25th. To our Ukrainian community, a very blessed Christmas, taking place on January 7th.
Our government has been hard at work to deliver on key commitments we have made to Albertans. On October 24th, we introduced the Fall 2019 budget, a balanced, thoughtful, and pragmatic approach to getting back to balance and bringing jobs back to Alberta. We also introduced a number of bills that are helping us restore the Alberta Advantage.
In late November, Premier Kenney met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs Chrystia Freeland. The Premier asked for a $1.72-billion equalization rebate payment to Alberta and voiced the need to kill bills C-48 and C-69. Additionally, Minister Toews reiterated that Minister Morneau needs to end the mortgage stress tests needlessly imposed on Albertans because of challenges in other parts of the country. We will keep fighting to make sure Alberta’s voice is heard in Ottawa.
Congratulations to the following Constituency groups who received recent grants:
- The Safe Haven Foundation of Canada (Haven’s Way Homes)
- The Southern Alberta Pioneers Foundation (Memorial Building Facility Upgrade)
- Rideau Roxboro Community Association (Playground Redevelopment)
- The Royal Scottish Country Dance (2019 Summer School Programming)
