It is the time of year where the days grow shorter, the nights are chilly, and we are starting to prepare for the festivities ahead. This November is exciting for Calgary, as we host the 107th Grey Cup. This is a great opportunity for our city to demonstrate our resilience as we invite the whole country to “Experience the Energy”. And in that spirit, our government continues to work hard to improve our economy, create jobs and make life better for Albertans.
In the field of energy, our government has moved forward with a review of the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER). This review is about foundational planning in order to establish a regulator that will manage Alberta’s resources in an efficient way that balances certainty and safety with environmental responsibility and respect for the rights of property owners. The Red Tape Reduction panel is also in full swing. Our government wants to hear from Albertans on how we can reduce the regulatory burden and make it easier to do business in the province. If you have a suggestion, please send it to CutRedTape.alberta.ca. We also responded to the opioid crisis by expanding access to treatment and recovery by funding 4,000 addiction treatment beds and spaces, outpatient services and medically assisted detox spaces. I know that driver testing has been a trying issue for many, so our government continues to work on the backlog of road tests and develop a sustainable long-term solution. And finally, the High School Apprenticeship Scholarship was announced enabling nearly 1400 high school students to access quality education in the trades.
I hope to see many of you as we gather at Remembrance Day ceremonies across our communities. It is important to take time to reflect on the heroism of all those Canadians who have fought for the rights of Freedom, Democracy and the Rule of Law.
