I hope everyone has been able to make the most of the good summer weather we’ve been having and is ready to return to school and work refreshed and revived.
It’s been a very busy summer; Stampede was extremely busy with many events both in Calgary Mackay Nose Hill and across the city. The Huntington Hills annual Stampede breakfast was wildly popular again and I saw a number of constituents among the 1,100+ people at the first annual Alberta Party Caucus Stampede Breakfast. Thanks to everyone who supported local initiatives.
It’s been great to get out door knocking and talk to people about what’s important to them. I know there are quite a few people who were affected by the economic downturn and that a number of people who lost their jobs because of the huge fall in the price of oil either aren’t back to work yet or have taken jobs that don’t match their skill set. Albertans are proud people who want to make valuable contributions to their community and that’s why I’m introducing a bill in the Legislature this fall to form a committee of business leaders, educators, employment professionals and former industry workers to take 6 months to develop a strategy to put Albertans back to work in jobs that use their transferable skills.
If you were affected by the downturn and your job disappeared or changed please contact my office—I want to hear your experience.
It’s been great to meet with some of the incredibly diverse organizations in the riding over the summer like Vibes Coffee House Bar and the late night pizzeria, Seniorés. Both of these are treasures in our community and I’m looking forward to seeing their continued success.
I’m always looking for your feedback. My office is open from 9am until 4:30pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday and Thursdays from 11:00am until 7:00pm. Please feel free to contact me by email at [email protected], by phone at 403-215-7710, or drop by the office at #106, 8220 Centre Street NE, beside First Calgary Credit Union.
We are able to assist you with notarizations, policy discussions on what you would like us to be bringing forward at the Legislature through questions, and to chat about how you think we are doing in representing you.
Thank you,
Karen McPherson
