I am pleased to share that Budget 2026 is investing in building more schools in Alberta’s fastest-growing cities. These 14 new school projects build on the 31 previously announced projects currently underway in Calgary, as Alberta’s government continues to focus on accelerating school construction in communities with the greatest pressures on their classrooms.

Alberta’s student population has increased significantly with 80,000 students joining Alberta’s schools in just three years. These new Calgary school projects include 11 new schools, one school addition, and one replacement school. An expansion of Alberta Classical Academy’s Currie Campus, a public charter school, will also support further educational choice for Calgary families.

With 40 new projects funded in Budget 2026, 161 active school projects are underway across the province.

After years of unprecedented growth in Alberta’s student population, this investment is part of the generational $8.6 billion to build and renovate more than 100 schools, which will create over 200,000 student spaces for Alberta students.

Since 2024, 98 new modular classrooms and 15 modular relocations have been approved and deployed in Calgary, creating more than 2,400 new student spaces and relocating over 350 additional spaces to schools with the greatest needs.

The government’s $44-million investment in school projects through Budget 2026 is part of its larger $8.6 billion Schools Now program. By 2031-32, the program will deliver about 200,000 new and renovated student spaces across Alberta.

I have advocated for many years for the construction of a new high school in west Calgary as part of The Calgary Roman Catholic Separate School Division. Ground has been broken; building is underway. Upon completion, this school will be able to accommodate 1,230 students in grades 10 to 12.

Under Budget 2025, approval for a grades five to nine school in Aspen Woods as part of CBE has been granted. It is in the design stage.

Happy Easter! Happy spring!
