President’s Message

by Alex MacWilliam

Spring in Calgary is always a time of mystery. Of course, the biggest mystery each year at this time is whether we will even have a spring. We have learned to expect the onset of patio season to include major snowfalls as late as the end of May. And then we move into summer.

As I write this column on Valentine’s Day, I am watching people in shorts and t-shirts shooting baskets in Murdoch Park. At the same time, the local weather forecasters are predicting 20 to 30 centimetres of snow and temperatures approaching -30 in the next three days. Three weeks of spring-like weather followed by a snowstorm and bitter cold. That’s Calgary. All we know is that March will be predictably unpredictable.

What is certain about spring in Bridgeland is that our longstanding community programs will emerge from their winter hibernation. Elsewhere in this issue, you will find information about our youth soccer program, the Rooftop Garden, and our early spring wellness classes. Thank you to all our dedicated volunteers for making these great programs available to our community residents.

Don’t put your snow shovels and winter boots away yet. But also keep your golf clubs and patio furniture handy. You will probably get the chance to use all of them this month.
