Goodbye Greg Davenport!

Just as the leaves change colour, so too does change come to all of us eventually. At the De Winton Community Association, we are sad to say goodbye to the Hall’s onsite Facility Manager, Greg Davenport.

Greg has been working as the Facility Manager since 2004 but is now retiring, hopefully, to some well-deserved R&R, with his feet up, sipping a fancy drink. However, those who know Greg assume he and Barb will continue to remain active between travelling and craft fairs and hitting a golf ball around a course here and there.

For almost two decades, Greg has been the face of the Hall. If you’ve ever attended an event, or taken a tour while planning a rental, you’ve seen and spoken with him. He is the epitome of a “jack-of-all-trades”, responsible for most aspects of the ongoing operations of the Hall. Greg has been our manager, administrator, tour guide, customer service representative, repair and maintenance coordinator, setup and takedown for weddings, custodian, and emergency responder for alarms (and more)!

Greg’s knowledge and experience has been a great asset to the DCA Board, which is made up of volunteer Directors. Directors generally serve a two-year term, although many have continued to volunteer well beyond that. Greg’s long tenure has allowed him to provide valuable continuity, history, and advice to those joining the Board over the years.

Greg will be wrapping up his time with us at the end of the month. If you are at the Hall this month, or in the area, drop by during office hours and wish him well! He has met so many people and made so many friends at the Hall that it will seem odd not to hear his voice and see his smile around. Hopefully, he’ll make the pilgrimage back to visit us at our keystone events, such as our Canada Day Breakfast, and other events he was a big part of!

Hello Amanda Gotmy!

At the same time as we wish Greg a fond farewell, we are extremely pleased to welcome our new Facility Manager, Amanda Gotmy. Amanda has been a fixture in the community for many years, serving on the DCA Board and volunteering on numerous occasions, and has been coordinating several popular DCA-sponsored events. If you’ve ever been out to enjoy Ghoulfest with your family (and other events), you have Amanda to thank. She also administers the Neighbours of De Winton Facebook page, keeping the community up to date on events, issues, and local spirit. No one will ever accuse Amanda of letting the grass grow beneath her feet!

Amanda is teeming with energy, enthusiasm, and ideas, and the Board and Preschool are excited to see her embark on this new adventure. She has been transitioning into her new role by training with Greg, so stop by the Hall and say “hi”!
