Cambrian Heights President’s Message for March

Cambrian Heights’ President’s Message

We held our first indoor food focused Farmer’s Market on January 31 in conjunction with our annual Polar Party. More than 15 vendors presented a variety of fresh and prepared foods for an enthusiastic attendance. This market will continue biweekly on Saturdays inside the community hall from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm until mid-May. Our Valentine’s Day market on February 14 featured live music. Please attend a Saturday to visit with your neighbours while supporting local area merchants. In late May the format will return outdoors every Tuesday afternoon through the summer.

We want to thank our ice rink volunteers again, and in particular Brent Else, for their preparation and maintenance of our outdoor rinks over the winter. The warm weather in February made sustaining the ice services difficult. We have long term plans of adding a separate structure for these volunteers to provide improved workspace and equipment storage.

In appreciation of our community volunteers, we will once again host a Volunteer Appreciation evening in early April. If you volunteer at community events including the casino fundraising event, community gardens, or maintaining the rinks, look out for your invitation to our annual thank you event.

We will continue to monitor Development Permits in Cambrian Heights with the background of our City Council’s review of the R-CG zoning regulations enacted in 2024. If you have comments on these deliberations, we encourage you to communicate your concerns to our Ward 4 Councillor, DJ Kelly, at [email protected]. These regulations currently allow the development of up to four units with secondary suites on what was a single-family residential lot. We also encourage residents to review their land titles for Restrictive Covenants as there are a number of them in place throughout the community.

The Community Association funds its activities and operates our facilities from rental monies, memberships, and proceeds from our Casino dates. This year we have been assigned Casino dates of June 8 and 9. More than 40 volunteers are needed to meet our obligations and realize this critical funding source. While a few months away, we have already begun planning. If you have volunteered before or wish to offer your time for a few hours one of those days, please contact our Casino Director, David Babich, at [email protected] for more information.

We are always looking for participation and comments from residents. If you have ideas for events, questions on developments, hall rental requests for birthdays, anniversaries, or weddings, please feel free to contact any of our Directors. We trust everyone is looking forward to spring to further enjoy our parks and recreational activities.
