May and June bring with them the greening of the city and our community parks. This results in bicycles being brought out of garages and vegetable gardens being planted. To help with this process Cambrian Heights will once again have a bicycle day focusing on the free maintenance of children’s bikes. This will take place June 14. Equally, the Community Garden plots at the Hall are available for summer lease should some of last years’ participants not want to renew. To check this status and details for leasing these garden plots please contact us at [email protected].
On June 28 we will be holding our Annual General Meeting at the Community Hall. Discussions will include a review of the 2024 year-end financial statements, construction plans at the Hall for 2025 and 2026, election of directors and some insights into the housing construction implications of the development rules allowed under the R-CG zoning Bylaw terms. Any updates on the existing Restrictive Covenants within a portion of Cambrian Heights will also be highlighted.
As mentioned in our last months’ report, a Cambrian Heights resident is starting a funding drive to replace the playground facilities at the 39 Ave Park with more modern facilities targeting young children. If you would like more information or to help out in the process, please contact Ila Faye Dale at [email protected].
Related to park space, we are once again looking for volunteers to help maintain the flower beds at the park bordered by Northmount and Cambrian Drives. For more information or to volunteer, please email [email protected]. We have applied for a development permit to place a community sign identifying Cambrian Heights in this park. This application is being processed by the City for approval with installation hopefully this summer.
As detailed last month, Cambrian Heights will be impacted with multifamily developments proposals taking advantage of the new zoning R-CG bylaw in our city. These developments allow the construction of non-contextual structures containing four units each with a basement suite thus accommodating eight families on what previously was a single-family residence. There are two such applications in process within Cambrian Heights at the writing of this report. We have provided information in our website (cambrianheightscommunity.com) to help residents understand and comment on such Development Permit applications. We also explain and identify some Restrictive Covenants within the community.
This summers’ Farmers Market at the Community Hall grounds continues to be organized as vendors are added to the food product vendor list. As designed, this market will run on consecutive Tuesdays from May 27 through October 7. Closer to the date we will be releasing participant details in the newsletter and social media.
We hosted our first ever Trivia Night at the Community Hall on April 12. Teams were formed and prizes awarded throughout the evening. Thanks go out to the volunteers organizing and running these events. We are also looking at hosting an event at our Off Leash Park sometime this summer. Details, once confirmed, will be provided on our website and through our social network sites. Volunteers are needed for all such events so if you are interested in helping, please contact us.
Please remember to check our website for news, activities and history of the community. We encourage residents to register their email addresses to receive bulletins dealing with development and social issues impacting the community.
