Spring is right around the corner. Keep an eye out for our beautiful community blooms! Our landscapers will plant all beds and pots after the May long weekend. This timing is always weather-dependent; we always make sure planting is done with no frost in the forecast.
Do you have perennials to donate? If you have plants that need to be split this year and rehomed, please consider your community! We take perennial donations; your generously donated plants will be planted throughout the community for everyone to enjoy. Perennials must be dug out by the homeowner; and then we will pick them up from you. If you have plants to donate, please contact our ELM Coordinator by the email address below.
Street sweeping will be done by the City of Calgary starting in April. If you want to find out when it will happen on your street, take a look at https://www.calgary.ca/roads/maintenance/spring-street-cleaning.html.
More reminders as we get ready for planting season, as in previous years, the City will be offering free compost; keep checking with the City of Calgary on their free compost giveaway program. All dates and details can be found at https://www.calgary.ca/waste/residential/green-cart-compost-giveaway.html.
After last year’s water restrictions, consider getting a rain barrel for your yard. Calgary’s average rainfall of 5 cm per month will provide approximately 4,000 litres of water. That can fill a typical 45-gallon rain barrel 20 times. You can visit greencalgary.org for more information on rain barrels.
What is the ELM program? The Enhanced Landscape Maintenance program has been around since 1999 in Citadel. Annually, $68.96 is collected from all households in Citadel, West Citadel, and Morningside and is used to enhance our community outside of what the City of Calgary can do. This special tax is collected through our city tax program.
