April Volunteer Spotlight – Youth and Community Coming Together

This spring, we’re excited to share a special collaboration for our upcoming Mother’s Day event. A group of student volunteers from Sir Winston Churchill High School will be working alongside our ECA volunteer team to help plan and bring this event to life.

This project was created to give students the opportunity to experience the full process of event planning — from brainstorming ideas and organizing roles to executing and managing the event on the day itself. It’s a meaningful chance for youth to develop leadership, teamwork, and communication skills while expressing their creativity in ways that directly benefit our community.

Most importantly, this project is about connection — creating space for youth to contribute, learn, and feel welcomed as active members of Edgemont.

Student Volunteer Perspective

“As high school students at Sir Winston Churchill, volunteering in our community is something we truly value. While academics are important, experiences like this allow us to grow in leadership, teamwork, and communication skills beyond the classroom.

We’re excited and grateful for the opportunity from ECA to help plan this year’s Mother’s Day event. Our team of six enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers — Ava Jiang, Nujhat Baki, Daniel Olubergimro, Sophie Ng, Mehwish Syed, and Anya Chauhan — is ready to challenge ourselves, collaborate creatively, and put together a meaningful and memorable event for the Edgemont community.”— Ava Jiang, Grade 11

Head of Volunteer Churchill

We are grateful for the enthusiasm and fresh energy these students bring, and we hope this collaboration continues to inspire more opportunities for residents of all ages to get involved. When generations work together, our community grows stronger.

Stay tuned for more details about our Mother’s Day Gathering — and be sure to get your Mother’s Day event tickets soon to enjoy a fun and heartwarming morning together!
